I Was Only on Vacation

Don't worry.  Nothing terrible happened to me at the beginning of last week and I was not avoiding posting.  My family and I just decided to take a vacation to Niagara Falls!

We traveled to Buffalo, New York and walked across the Rainbow Bridge (not really made out of a rainbow, unfortunately) into Niagara Falls, Ontario.    I was not too thrilled about this trip at first.  I really just wanted to relax during my last two weeks of summer.  But by the time we got there and had the first look at the falls from the bridge, I was glad we went.

There really is not a lot to what makes up the Niagara Falls.  There's the American Falls and the Horseshoe Falls which both pour into Lake Ontario.  To see them in person is unbelievable and makes it more intriguing.  Here's a couple of pictures I took literally 5 feet off the lake.

This vacation was a great conclusion for my semi-busy summer.  A lot of fun and easy living things happened this summer and I'm glad they could all be wrapped up with a relaxing visit to the one of the most amazing waterfalls in the world.

Top Google Search #2

This weeks most searched topic on Google might be even more "random" than last weeks (click here to view that one).  Here it is:

"random 3 digit number"

I did successfully find a website to give me a random number ( the first time I looked.  I just happened to repeatedly search these words over and over again this past week.  If you haven't realized by now, I have a tiny obsession with the t.v. show "How I Met Your Mother."  I just started watching it at the beginning of summer and will admit to being addicted.  So addicted that I have seen every episode at least once, if not twice.  This has presented me with a problem.  Watching HIMYM never gets old for me.  Except sometimes I don't know which episodes I want to watch.  Therefore I figured I'd let the "element of surprise" choose my episodes for me.  In the three digit random number, the first number is the season and the last two numbers are the episode number.  So far this has effectively helped me procrastinate my summer reading assignment and ACT/PSAT prep.  But it's Neil Patrick Harris so it's alright.

"Funny When You're Dead..."

"...How people start listenin'"  This is part one of a two-part post.
Comment if you know the song title and artist...because the next post might will spoil it for you.

Note: This is one of the more opinionated and personal posts of mine.  Feel free to disagree, but I feel like this is something I've been holding in for a while.  Sorry if this depresses anyone =[  If so, just focus on trying to guess the artist and song title, that's always fun to do!

I hope this doesn't make me seem like a terrible person, but I don't like the big deal that the public and the media make over celebrities passing away.  This most recently refers to Amy Winehouse.  I'm not saying that they should not be acknowledged, she really did have a great talent and it's sad to see her go, I just have a problem with the idea that somehow her death becomes worldwide news (as if people don't die everyday).

I suppose her death just reminds me of the whole "Son of John Travolta Death" story.  This was a couple years ago so I was still learning how the world works...but I remember thinking "Why is this important?"  I understood that his family would be really sad about his death, but what does this have to do with me?  I don't personally know his family and his son...what am I supposed to make of this?  I have lost someone close to me and I don't see them caring anything about it.  Even if this wasn't about me, parents all over the world are losing their children whether it's due to a disease, murder, or suicide and it's not like we're watching their entire burial process on prime time t.v.

When I heard about Amy Winehouse's death, I couldn't help but feel the same way.  It was unfortunate that she had to die so early in her life with so much talent, but I don't need to know everything about the matter just because she was famous.  I didn't know her personally and I don't really intend to know her now that she's gone.  I guess my big problem is that all types of focus are being put on celebrity deaths while average run of the mill deaths are nothing but expected.  It just makes me angry knowing that everyone feels for her family while my family along with various others' had to go through our losses alone.  Except, I don't wish that the whole world knew about the specifics of our family, it's not like they knew what kind of person the deceased was.  I guess the bottom line would be: the amount of attention the death of celebrities get overshadows that of an average person, and that's something I am ashamed about when it comes to the media.

My take on this problem might disagree with yours, but this really is how I feel.  It'll probably change as I get older, but for right now, this is it.

Happy August =]

I just wanted to wish everyone a

I can't believe how quickly this year is going.  I am one of those people who thinks summer is too long, but a lot of things occurred this summer.  There were camps, vacations, light was just busier than usual (and slightly more productive). A little more time would be nice, but school's about to start so I might as well get ready.

How are everyone's summers wrapping up?

"If I lay Here..."

"...if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world?" Recognize these lyrics?  Comment below with either the song title and/or artist for bonus points!

Apparently most of the songs I hear on Pandora I associate with movies or t.v. shows in which they were featured.  When I heard "Just the Way You Are" I practically wrote an entire post on Glee.  And this time the post will be about Grey's Anatomy (more specifically Denny Duquette and Izzie Stevens, but more on that later).  Grey's Anatomy has been on for many years now, but I just started to watch it about 10 months ago.  See, Fox would air reruns Sunday's at 11:04pm and I'd stay up and watch them from the beginning.  I eventually rented all the seasons and got caught up by the 2011 spring season premiere.  I really was a "school girl w/ time to waste."

For those of you who watch the show, I guess you could say that this song was featured in two episodes.  But considering the fact that I did not care for (actually hated) the "musical" episode this past spring, I am voiding that one. The episode that came to my mind was the saddest episode in my opinion---the episode where Denny dies.

I am not one of those people who cries at movies, t.v. shows, or even news stories.  (I always tell myself that I'm "saving my tears for a time when I really need them")  However, when I saw this episode, I did not have time to remind myself to save them because this was just heartbreaking. Surprisingly enough, I am not sad while writing this and reflecting back on the episode.  I had my one good cry while watching the episode, but now I am at a point where when I think about it, I kind of smile at the beauty of that scene and the episode all together.

So I end this post with a smile...that's how we should remember those that we've lost anyway =]
